THE POETRY OF DR. SEUSS

vcx

When I was a teacher of 4th graders, there was no more favorite time for them and me,then to read one of Dr. Seuss’ books…even now I have very pleasant and vivid memories of those experiences…his playful verse speaks to our inner child (right brain) and leaves deep memories within us particularly when reading his stories to children.

How did it get so late so soon?
It’s night before it’s afternoon.
December is here before it’s June.
My goodness how the time has flewn.
How did it get so late so soon?
~Dr. Seuss

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.
You’re on your own.
And you know what you know.
You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.
~Dr. Seuss

Waiting for the fish to bit
Or waiting for wind to fly a kite.
Or waiting around for Friday night
Or waiting perhaps for their UncleJake
Or a pot to boil or a better break
Or a string of pearls or a pair of pants
Or a wig with curls or another chance.
Everyone is just waiting. ~Dr. Seuss

I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind.
Some come from ahead and some come from behind.
But I’ve bought a big bat. I’m all ready you see.
Now my troubles are going to have troubles with me!
~Dr. Seuss
