Most major religions ask that we surrender our self to the “Will of God” or Higher Power… Can this be interpreted as surrendering our socially conditioned ego to a deeper intuitive intelligence ?… Does it also suggest that God’s presence exist within us and not simply a power outside of ourselves?

They are the chosen ones
who have surrendered.

The word “surrender” is often interpreted as giving up, as weakness, as admitting defeat. Although this is one way to use the word, we will use it in a different way. Surrendering means letting go of your resistance to the total openness of who you are. It means giving up the tension of the little vortex you believe yourself to be and realizing the deep power of the ocean you truly are. It means to open with no boundaries, emotional or physical, so you ease wide beyond any limiting sense of self you might have. – David Deida

“Self-interest is but the survival of the animal in us. Humanity only begins for man with self-surrender.” – Henri Frederic Amiel

  2. Ron,

A Taoist saying that left a deep impression upon me:

The ordinary man gains something every day,
But the wise man lets go of something every day.

The understanding of surrender is clearly expressed in Oriental Religions but hidden in Western Religions…the idea of surrender was the primary reward I received in my studies of Oriental Religions…I believe it is possible to measure the depth of a spiritual experience by the profoundness of the surrender.

  3. Sid,

I like your metaphor of left brain surrendering to right brain. I hope it helps many people.

A few days ago I posted many surrender quotes on my SillySutras.com website which will launch on May 21. But I missed and will now add some of those which you posted today.

Here are more apt surrender quotes for RightBrain visitors to consider.

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
~ Proverbs 3:5-6

“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.”~ Lao Tzu

~ Lao Tzu

“Knowledge is learning something every day.
Wisdom is letting go of something every day.” ~ Zen Proverb

“In the end these things matter most:
How well did you love? How fully did you love?

  4. Carol,

“In each life some rain will fall”…the real faith of natural synchrony is the ability to yield and flow with adverse events.

  5. A friend once told me just to do what your intuition tells you to do – led me right into synchronous events that always bring me to the right place with a happy outcome. Nice quotations, Sid.
