“Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality.” ~Earl Nightingale

At the heart of the ego are expectations which we learned throughout life and now identify as our own…we generally do not realize we have downloaded expectations designed to motivate our social behavior so we will conform to our environment…and these expectations become the primary source of our self image and role playing… when these expectations are not resolved they can become tyrannical and lead to severe guilt and despair…such painful feelings often seek some form of release or escape.

Our most important expectations developed during early childhood and their roots are embedded in the subconscious mind…it is also important to know that the vast majority of our expectations are unnecessary and only serve as a way of achieving an artficial social status…therefore the question is how can we let go of a problematic expectation but beyond our conscious control…perhaps there are many approaches but my particular preference is similar to mantra meditation.

The technique attempts to send a message to my subconscious mind through words and images repeated over an extended period of time…learning a skill such as driving a car will eventually result in our ability to drive largely unconsciously, and so it is also true that repeating especially emotional words and related images will find its way to the source of our subconscious expectations.

The words and images which have special  meaning to me are “let go”and “surrender“… for many years, I have used both these words and images in quiet reflection when confronted with a painful and failed expectation…if I persist and patiently wait the chances are good the expectation will vanish and no longer be a problem to me.
