ILLUSION OF SELF

“A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.”. ~Albert Einstein

If you look at the image above you may see a vase or upon further examination you may also see two faces looking at each other, but it is difficult for our eyes to see both at the same time. According to Gestalt psychology it is an example of figure / ground where we have difficulty seeing total pictures. It is similar to the concept of yin / yang in that there is an interrelationship and an identity between both parts and they flow in rhythm with each other…and for us to be balanced and in harmony with this natural process it is important to freely allow them to move effortlessly. To block or try to control the movement is to be out of harmony with life.

Important examples for us is ego / subconscious and self / universe…there is a strong tendency within us to overemphasize the ego and self while ignoring the vital importance of the subconscious and universe…our social institutions encourage us to be obsessed with the status and success of our ego…this obsession results in a form of ego trance in which we become stuck in a trap losing our sense of freedom and natural spontaneity…the joy of living as we knew it in childhood is lost and we feel alienated from our roots.

We have become separated from our ego and subconscious along with a separation of self and universe …these are the basic figure / ground or yin / yang interrelationships which we violate causing us to be blind to the more important part of our identity, but instead adopt a separate self for which we expect to control and direct our fabricated meaning and purpose in life.

“The true value of a human being is determined by the measure and the sense in which they have obtained liberation from the self”~ Albert Einstein

In the image below, can you see both the old lady and young lady ?…we tend to see a young lady and an old lady as separate entities and may have difficulty of seeing both together in one image…however when we relax our effort to see both and simply relax allowing the window of our subconscious to expand an awareness of both may become evident.

  1. I look forward to reading your findings, thoughts, posts on biocentrism. marion

  2. Marion,

I have done research on Biocentrism and agree it is consistent with the ideas of this blog… I hope to do a blog on their insights.

  3. Yes, it is indeed a lovely site…thank you Sid. A further exploration of these enlightening ideas are in two (among many others :0) ) books that I’ve discovered: Biocentrism by Robert Lanza and Christ is not a Person by J.C. Tefft Both of these books reveal a different way of viewing the ‘human experience’ beyond what our conditioned mind has been inculcated with. Again, my thanks for this site.

  5. Hi Jen,

I sincerely appreciate your fascinating comment… I agree that our flow of energy is more truly ourselves then anything we can see in the mirror.

I hope that your flow of energy will give you the deep meaning in life in which it was intended rather than the superficialities of our separate physical self.

  6. I love your site, it is everything I have always believed and felt from the time I was a child. as a child i didn’t feel I had a self in a physical sense. I felt like i was a moving energy. I would often stare at myself in the mirror trying to prove to myself that i was solid and looked like something. I needed the mirror to show me that i was a physical object. As I got older i started to feel more like a physical entity. Now I am moving back again to my original feeling of energy. I love this site, it makes me feel like I have been on the right track all along. Thanks, jen

  7. I think I will try to recommend this post to my friends and family, cuz it’s really helpful.
