BEYOND PAIN

Most of us have experienced chronic frustration and pain both psychologically or physically at different periods of our life…and felt trapped without any solution or answer…our rational mind searches for ways to overcome the pain and not only fails in its efforts but also intensifies our preoccupation with the pain…it becomes a vicious circle as Carl Jung has said “resist persist”.

It rarely occurs to us that a deep interest in some activity in which we can “lose our self” will “burn out the pain”…it is the attention we give to the pain and our attempts to resist it that becomes the source of  pain.

The real challenge is to find and “follow your bliss” as described by Joseph Campbell…everyone has such a special talent and interest but for a variety of reasons are not conscious of it…perhaps the primary reason is that the activity would not offer social benefits or recognition…but to “lose our self” in a passionate interest has its own intrinsic rewards which can not be found in the social world...the best way to find your self is to lose your self in a passionate activity.

Tanya… When we try to change negative feelings, they only become worse… The only way negative feelings can be changed is by accepting them… This cannot be done intentionally but only by giving up the efforts to control these feelings… It means a willingness to let go or surrender your ability to be in control… It is strange that when we give up on control, we gain control…Sid

  2. how do i change my feelings? i can’t help it when I am sad.. or mad. I don’t know how, and I try, to just end up more frustrated.
